carnation

yes, yet another little pattern right here. how littler can it get? can you see anything? hehe. well, don't be afraid. i won't be turning this into the little flower blog. would you like me to change the color scheme to pink as well? i could have a light pink background, write in dark pink and have a pink header. yummy!

i must say i am missing finland these days. hmm. although i'm pretty sure these flowers would be frowned upon in the land of the midnight sun. finnish design loves simplicity!

hatai

continuing with the little patterns. this is another reinterpretation of another ottoman pattern. see how crappy i cropped the image? (hehe that kind of rhymes!) bad, bad, bad... this is again, a small part of the bigger project i mentioned before.

you see i like flowers pretty much! many other people must be liking them too, because i need to make use of flowers quite often in designs.

what do you think? are flowers gateways to 'kitsch'-bad and cheap taste? or do you find them visually useful?

çintemani

let's see some little patterns. i had a lot of fun doing these; despite the tight deadline, couple of months ago. ok, more than a couple i guess :D they are interpretations of traditional ottoman patterns and are part of a bigger project. i hope it is fun looking at the details!

ahh, so refreshing to be back!!

i hope this won't turn into the-blog-makeover-that-never-happened. 'a snake story', as we say it in turkish. it is said for things that never get done or completed. familiar, huh?

flabbergasted

uh, more updates please! when you don't talk about something, it is as if you haven't done it. now that i am not talking about what i have been doing (a lot!); new designs, new characters, new scenes... you might think that i am actually sitting in front of my computer doing nothing. ahhh, the work that strips you off of the tiniest bit of time you have!

missing it all

serious meeting with a teammate

remember the entry about working with a team? well, that is still going on, full speed. i feel kind of sorry to leave my blog alone in the middle of the internet, but i don't feel sorry for creating new things! it's a shame i still can't post them for quite a while. i hope they turn out nice :) i rarely have time to design some stuff of my own. hmm...

when i am working like crazy, i miss the most mundane things like watching tv, surfing the internet (definitely not for scientific reasons ;) or sitting on a couch staring at the walls. come on, i need to stare at the walls to collect myself! don't you think that is a necessity?

three's a party

the dynamism of working with a team of a lot of people has always fascinated me. it is like you could go on forever! well, at least for a while. hehe. knowing that somebody is taking care of a piece of the huge task leaves you confident that you can focus on your own piece. not to forget the hilarious dialogues you have along the way:) to the team players all around the world!

how do you like working, on your own or with a group?

new stuff is coming:)

every rose has its thorn

assos was, as usual, fantastic. the sea was, again, very cold. and wonderful. swimming there is such a blast! although i must sadly warn that we have seen the tiniest beginnings of sea pollution. a little bit of foamy discharge here, some unnatural and dirty-looking moss on the rocks there. hmm. what a surprise... i will truly be mourning if the assos sea dies just like many others.

but hey, just look at this girl courtesy of assos nature. isn't she inspiring? the golden color, those layers, that ordered randomness, that surface just right and effective for the dry and hot weather. one wants to biomimic :) is that even a verb?

are there instances when you just want to use nature's solutions?

viajamos

i honestly didn't have my share of sea this year, which is unfair for a swimming enthusiast. i just cannot say farewell to summer without enjoying the aegean. between going to finland (what did you do there, by the way?) and working my ass off, i just couldn't fit in the time to jump into the water. if it weren't for some surprise alterations in our schedule, we wouldn't be able to go now, either. (ok first you were talking as 'i', suddenly you changed to 'we'. who exactly are you and how many people?)

turquoise waters, wait for me! hihi. us. we. i.

bit by bit

the chromage is becoming acceptable. what to do about those leds? they look so dull. emit some light, already! grrr. i will also need to show the connection to this guy. let's not look static!

hover

jump up, come down. up, down. up, down. it is sometimes impossible for me to focus and get things done. but i made a promise to myself of finishing what i started and realizing what i set my mind to, and i need to keep it. aah, if it weren't for that promise! i'm still a kid i guess.

having said that, isn't rope jumping fun?

edit: good old grammar book, where art thou?

giornale

hihi i have found ways to eliminate the dirty greyness, partially. still not too happy, though. need some contrast. some shadows. some depth. and how can i not lose the led lights while still keeping it bright?

hmmm. a long way to go.

please keep watching:)

hurry hurry

i need to get going fast. but nevertheless, i would like to upload a new progress image. i despise these wordless posts.

fixed the proportions a bit. eliminated total greyness. still not happy about the dirt, though. do you know a good way to fix it? please tell:)

Monday, July 25, 2011

why is everything so grey?

a cannot say i am too crazy about the dirty greyness all over. and what about this angle? hm, maybe the angle is not too bad. i don't know. i'm hating the dirty middle part more right now i guess. but it's a progress image, isn't it?

still didn't refine the model as i promised. too dark for a lamp.

here, have a little incubus.

getting there

so, it seems that my model is forming albeit slowly. i will have to do some refinement refinement refinement. some proportions that i don't like need to change. i will also have to take different renders to show what is (hopefully) so special about this gal. rum ta dum! i am enjoying modeling it. hope to enjoy rendering it for a decent look and hope you enjoy seeing its progression as well!

i become horrified as i notice that it has been around 9 months since my announcement of a new look and feel and everything for my website! man, am i slow... i totally need a makeover. i hope to be able to put all the new stuff online -both designs and animations- asap. that means asap, self!

pending

does this look familiar? maybe you remember some old friend of ours from wayy back! that's right, the wire toy. wasn't he cute? and maybe you remember the lamp project i was working on, too? that's right. the two of them are back! they want to become -how to say- more real, more concrete, more... good looking:) hopefully!

hm, i think i'm coming slowly back, as well:D

it is 11:55 pm and i am literally melting. that is how hot and humid it is. in the middle of the night!!! scary.

edit: i revised the model a bit and changed the image- there were some problems with it. sorry!

horizontes nuevos

solidworks. i knew we would be good friends:) the guy -and he is definitely a guy!- is so intuitive and easy to use. clean, neat and precise. where have you been all these years? a modeler's dream. thank you thomas parel for the nice tutorial!

practise practise practise!

do you have some nice program 'findings' that have been so obvious already?

gotta be alert

aah, how i love the lazy months of summer! because of our 'no beach vacation in july and august' policy -too hot!-, we are enjoying a quiet city. nobody cares about work too much. but you never know when something will come up, do you?

file sync

some of my files are on the laptop. some are on the 'cloud' (super-cool-trendy term for saving your files on the internet and on not your hard disk-well basically. i'm such a newbie in using it) some are even on my camera. and now i'm back to my desktop after a long while in finland. how am i going to get all the stuff together???

working on my laptop had its funny moments. i put some books under it to avoid that nightmare neck pain (what a designerly solution!!) i had to get used to the super small screen (now the desktop screen seems like a football field) and the crappy low-contrast colors. not to mention the uber low computing performance. the thing i did not understand in finland that everyone -and that means everyone- was working on laptops and they didn't seem to mind the performance while i just constantly wanted to scream 'get the work done already and don't crash!!!' oh, not to forget to mention- it was almost forbidden to use windows;)

hihi i love you whichever operating system you fancy...

Monday, June 6, 2011

so what was that all about?

yeah, as you may have noticed, the previous project was a reinterpretation of a finnish 'kuksa', a hand-carved wooden cup that finnish people love to carry around in the forest. the idea was to provide newcomers to helsinki a means (muksa) to discover the interesting cafés in the city through cheaper coffee for carrying your own cup!

this was also a group project, thanks to my groupmates and we had yet another exhibition in the halls of the lovely aalto university.

nope, i haven't been lying...

what in the world is this? can you guess? it is a hard one, i must confess... more on this later. see, i was busy after all! welcome to my new follower by the way:)

Saturday, May 7, 2011

aah, where to start...

2011 is the year of terrible blogging. or so says my archive. why oh why? finland has kind of... taken its toll on me. not in a bad way, though. can 'taking its toll' be used in a positive way? i guess not. hmm. it's a nice expression, though. at least to the ear.

i must happily declare that i have been producing new content:) i have temporarily lost my ability to update content while creating it. but no more. let's declare may the month of consistency:D

saab

finland is probably the only place i can see this beautiful saab. i feel lucky. check out the features... it is commanding attention!
ps: dear owner of this saab, please note that i have patiently erased your license plate, so don't be pissed at me:)

put your hands in the air

agg! my last post disappeared in the black hole of internet, and now i have to write it again! ok, here it goes: hihi the amount of collaborative work in my life is in an increase trend:) and i am very happy about that. this is only a tiny small bit of the rethink finland project we made at the aalto university. i am very happy to have met all the idbm'ers. a big thank you! and thanks a lot to prof peter mcgrory for this wonderful course! it's a pity it was just 3 weeks...

give me all the peace and joy in your mind

this is incredible... a personal record! almost two months without posting...shame on me. but i had really good reasons. or really bad reasons, i don't know. hihi. i am ready to get back to the world. the last three months have been the most busy in my life. there were times when i thought that my eye would pop out anytime. or i would merge into the computer screen. but i felt soo alive! all that stress turned into kind of an interesting, humming relief which i can't find any nice words to describe. i hope it lasts!

i came to finland, went back and came again. please don't make me take any more flights in a while. here, some muse for you.

tervetuloa

if you look past the clouds, you will see a very, very snowy country below. that is finland. and that is where i am now. since i have come here, i want to sleep, sleep and sleep all the time. but i don't. hihi. adapting to yet another country. surviving in a different climate. seeing what is beyond the ice. let's play!

abandonado

hihi like abandoned factories or metro stations, unattended blogs tend to be vandalized. the amount of spam comments increases substantially. they usually go something like this: 'wow, this was really interesting. can i link it to my blog?' well, if you want to link it to your blog, at least bother to read it and write a relevant post instead of some generic bullcrap. off go the 'comments' to the black hole of the internet. thank you comment moderation.

i've always wondered : what happens to inactive blogs? do they continue their virtual presence in the universe of internet? do they become vagabond domain occupants? do they get invaded by persistent spammers?

i'm still alive and working. a lot. i'll have some interesting news soon, though:) though, soon.

Tuesday, January 25, 2011

back to the kitchen

i have somewhat more spare time right now. but i cannot guarantee that tomorrow i'll still have it:) january has been a terrible month blog-wise. it has been a nice month so far, work-wise though. i think i might have infected my computer with a terrible virus (beware of s€curity shi€ld which is actually not secure and definitely does not shield you from anything). that's why i'm writing from another computer and i am pictureless. which i hate. more meaningful entries please!

spotless mind

hmmm. the first entry of 2011. just a reminder that i'm around here. overworking takes its toll, and i have no spare thoughts to share here, at least for now:) don't worry, i'll be back soon!

i'll leave you with gogol bordello. a little chaos for peace of mind:D
