a strange coincidence

what is the thing that makes me most jealous nowadays? check out coraline; the incredible stop-motion feature that gets stop motion to another... height? you know i'm quite crazy about stop-motion...i am even jealous about the super cool website. the film doesn't seem quite suitable for children, but it has a strange extra meaning for me:

when i was a small kid, i could spend ridiculous amounts of time just looking at things. i used to stare at the world atlas for hours, literally, just to imagine about being in a specific country. i was just memorizing the political maps which gave no information about the countries except for maybe the capital city and a bunch of smaller cities. oh and their block colors that meant nothing for the mappers but to distinguish one country from another.

well, another strange thing that i spent hours examining was my mother's button collection. she didn't collect them as a hobby, of course. they just accumulated over years in a plastic bag as spare buttons for sofas, shirts, skirts, trousers, jackets... so they were quite a sight to look at. i would sit down on the carpet and check their sizes, colors, textures, their sewing details... i would dream about this small pearlish pink one, then about that big green velvety one with a hole underneath... is that freakish?

anyway, the coraline movie is quite obsessed about buttons, too. which makes me feel happy in a weird way because i see i was not the only one;)

hope the movie arrives here soon!!

fiat lux

let me give you a clearer vision of what i like doing most: designing lighting fixtures! i have had the chance get into the amazing world of lighting this past year, and it's been a bliss. with lighting, it is a brand new experience, because well, as a professional i met from the lighting fair said, 'you design something that isn't there.' the negative/positive space, the mood that lighting creates, blending it within the environment...a continuous source of challenges.

impatience

looks like origami dog is finally fed up with waiting. she decided to animate herself. i wonder if she can pop out of the monitor? that would be fun:) who doesn't want a 2d pet? one problem could be her disappearing when looked from the front. and she is extremely low maintenance. but hey, don't make fun of my girl, ok? after all, she's an environmental doggie! now we'll see how that's possible later;) by the way, anybody remember those stupid 'tamagotchi's, (which you had to feed or play with so that they don't... die? oh, come ooooon. boring.) hehe i'm sure there are equally brilliant 'virtual pets' in the market right now. yuck!

insomnia

some days really knock you out. i slept from 8 pm to 8 am. i really couldn't get enough. yesterday practically i just went to some places and talked to some people. i had to argue with them, evaluate them, be evaluated by them, persuade them, calm them down, get them excited...three different sets of people, all in the same day. besides, i had to travel a total of four and a half hours. i'm not sure which part was more exhausting, though.

tomorrow i'll be on the road again. don't fall asleep on your laptops;)

back to the front

i will be out of town from around wednesday to around saturday. hectic schedule as usual. sometimes i think my own stomach will eat itself up because of stress. hehe that would be useful. no more worries about extra calories...

there are times in your life when you need to make critical, tough and seeeerious decisions. well, i hate those times! i have a few options. how am i supposed to know which option is good? can i first have a look at my future in either option and then tell my decision? will i forever regret my not having chosen the other options? why, oh why is there no time travel? oh, wait a minute. even time travel doesn't solve my problems. why is there no time travel in parallel universes?

i have wanted to share this for quite a long time.enjoy life and don't be too hard on yourselves, no matter what;)

honey, can you open the window?

i really must say over and over again that i am no photographer, but i am quite crazy about doors and windows. how ugly and beautiful and old and somehow amazing they can be! people paint them in all these fantastic colors, and in some cases, they don't paint them at all. all that wear and tear. those signs of someone living in there. years and years of no maintenance. i definitely adore the strange rules of aesthetic that apply around here. what makes one nail that thick piece of wood next to those thin pieces? why does the frame (what frame?) seem to be about to fall into the ground?

insert book

remember my mom's book, which i designed the cover for, and which has turned out to be... a little... surprising, let's say? it has been on a national newspaper's book insert last thursday. this time they got the color right. strange... i hope that can get her tons of sales:)

life has been quite hectic these days. it seems to me that more chaos is due. a little thinking time and a good cup of coffee is what i need right now. mmm. cozying up with a cup of nice hot coffee. i would have liked to mention a blanket, too, but that would make me sound... damn, i already did mention it:P

i am officially in business

this is my new business card. when i was small, having a business card was the coolest thing for me. 'oh, this person has a BUSINESS CARD! look at those fancy characters! those numbers! that address! she must be really important!' i thought it was a luxury that only privileged people could enjoy. after all, it must be really expensive to have a business card with all the design and printing and stuff, right? wrong!
you cannot even buy half a week's worth of groceries with the amount i paid for this. and believe me, they don't even care if you are a mouse to print you a business card.
it is fun to hand them out, though. 'oh hello!' (meets old school friend). 'so what's up?' 'not much, really.' (tries to find a topic without any success) 'ok then, see you around.' 'oh, wait a minute. here's my BUSINESS CARD.' (friend gets it and examines) 'cool! by the way, what's this font?' (conversation unleashed. happy ending for everyone:)
you cannot believe how many years i have wandered around the business world without a card. i know, i know. shame on me. but hey, don't you tell me you don't get your lazy times, too. please. hehe i doubt, though, you can surpass me.

ps: i'm afraid i will change the color scheme of the blog again to match my internet site and business card.

guesswork

long time no see. i will increase my posting frequency, i promise.

so i'm taking this giant:P step and sharing one design sketch with you. hint: i have hinted previously on the blog:)) there's no use being scared, right?

can you guess what i'm planning to do? hehe if only i could get you playing. the answers usually tend to be much more creative and fun than the actual one.

i am usually pessimistic about life, the world, the universe etc. but i feel this kind of stupid happiness coming from nowhere these days. is it because the days are getting longer? of course my overall pessimism is here to stay (maybe i can talk about that in another post), as usual, but nowadays i get this 'things will be ok' feeling inside of me. hehe i want to enjoy this before the next wave of moodiness settles in.

ps: by the way, my friend says she liked the colored version of the owl a lot. yippi!! hehe lots of new work to come, stay tuned!
