watch your step

look at this girl! she's such a cutie pie. she was walking around after a brief rain. maybe not walking, but shall we say... waving around? her bottom part was wavering in a funny way to push her forward. she was quite fast, too. once again, i would like to say, texture! oh, and i feel she is so much more intelligent than me nowadays:D

so meric, you haven't been talking about your projects in a while. yeah, i know. i actually made a lot of progress in most of them (mainly on the bag and the website), but they both are in a state where showing what is going on is meaningless right now. there are bits and pieces all over. but i'm getting there. and believe me, the world is full of crazy textiles! (the bag front). so thin, yet so strong...as for my animation project, i haven't forgotten that a tiny bit, either. i'll come back to it in a while. but first things first. i've suffered from too much multitasking before, so i'm watching my portions with that. that's what i am, a chronic multitasker. anybody taking too much on their plate as well?

logicomix

what happens when a mathematician-writer, a computer scientist, and two animator-cartoonists decide to create a graphic novel about logic? well, here you go: logicomix! i'm very happy to have met alecos papadatos during the animation celebration last december at our university, and he has done all the character design and drawings in it.

pretty crazy idea, not? i was fascinated when i heard the idea; even more fascinated when i read it! bertrand russell is our hero. he is in "an epic search for truth", as on the cover of it. i was crazy about the scenario, the characters, the colors... as i told alecos, i liked that logicomix does not answer all the questions it is asking... it will be out in turkey in a couple of months, i guess.

enjoy!

sonido

it is amazing how much difference sound effects and music make while watching an animation. we'll be able to see that difference in a short while. i wish i had time to do the sound effects of mine before i showcased it in front of 30-40 people... or 50?

voila! i'm waiting for you:)

yes, here is the poster. my workshop will take place during the 'animation celebration' from 1st to 4th december. what will i be doing? well, you'll have to come and see for yourselves:) the date and place might vary a little. during my beloved influenza, i had to keep at home, meaning i missed the last meeting on the event. i will update in a while. i'm excited!!! brrr.

edit: i changed the poster to fit the actual time and place. the university is maltepe, of course:)

oh no! not another project!

well i told you i was an industrial designer, didn't i? i can almost hear you scream 'you didn't even finish your last 500 projects! what the heck is this?'

let me clear this up: i do love working on multiple projects at the same time. even if it drives me a little crazy. i promise, i'll finish each of them before i die:)

so what are the other projects waiting in line?
-the weird lamp (industrial design)
-bobo and the alien at the beach (animation)
-various stock images and footage (illustration and animation)
-weekly teaching exercises (3d model, design, animation)
-one workshop/demo i would like to perform (animation, character design)
-a poster for the demo (graphic design)

see? putting them together, they are not at all too many. am i trying to convince you, or myself? hmmm.

anyway, about the photo: can you guess what this one is? it's no bigger than a credit card in dimensions. you can see clearly that sewing is not my strogest asset:) but i'm working on it. and i must warn you, we have a sewing machine, too! imagine what wonders i can create with that:P

ausente

whew. it's been quite a while. this is the longest time i guess without me updating. sorry for that, but these guys are part of the reason why i couldn't. being commercial and bla bla bla, i can't talk about it (sorry about the 'mysterious' stuff i have to put here). i can say i really had fun working these months.

today i actually watched coraline with bonus 3d glasses. apart from being technically superb, fabulous and incredible, i found something about the film really weird. i think the scenario was a bit odd to me. too creepy for a child to watch, and yet too childish for an adult... and 'the other side of the house' theme... haven't we seen that many times before? but i must say, the puppets, their animations, the expressions, the set, the visuals... i am lime green with envy:)

rocket science

because there is no air in space, there can't possibly be any fire on the back of a rocket, right? but, come to think of it, the fire can't possibly be green, too... so why don't we just sit down , relax and just think about the absurd physics that animation provides us?

a strange coincidence

what is the thing that makes me most jealous nowadays? check out coraline; the incredible stop-motion feature that gets stop motion to another... height? you know i'm quite crazy about stop-motion...i am even jealous about the super cool website. the film doesn't seem quite suitable for children, but it has a strange extra meaning for me:

when i was a small kid, i could spend ridiculous amounts of time just looking at things. i used to stare at the world atlas for hours, literally, just to imagine about being in a specific country. i was just memorizing the political maps which gave no information about the countries except for maybe the capital city and a bunch of smaller cities. oh and their block colors that meant nothing for the mappers but to distinguish one country from another.

well, another strange thing that i spent hours examining was my mother's button collection. she didn't collect them as a hobby, of course. they just accumulated over years in a plastic bag as spare buttons for sofas, shirts, skirts, trousers, jackets... so they were quite a sight to look at. i would sit down on the carpet and check their sizes, colors, textures, their sewing details... i would dream about this small pearlish pink one, then about that big green velvety one with a hole underneath... is that freakish?

anyway, the coraline movie is quite obsessed about buttons, too. which makes me feel happy in a weird way because i see i was not the only one;)

hope the movie arrives here soon!!

rhythm is a dancer

i always confuse the spelling of 'rhythm'. i had to check the dictionary while adding to the title. it has way too many consonants. (hehe i had to look up 'consonant' too. but i got it right:)

alright, the one and onlyyyyyy bobo!

she is dancing the stupidest dance to the stupidest music! what do you think? i really appreciate any comments.

i wonder what turns out when i add some background. someday i will try some mimics and hair movement, too. when? not before i get involved in some industrial design. let's not forget our roots, right?

one more thing: i couldn't overcome my curiosity, so asked my mom to send a copy of her book and the bookmark. shame on me:) i will send you some photos when i get them.

careful with the sand, kiddo!

here it is! a test animation for my beloved beach party ... poor bobo seems to lick the shovel, making it look like ice-cream. so, intead of demonstrating how much she enjoys playing with her toys and sand, she seems to love the delicious treat. hehe.

i thought i'd never be able to start this film. i hope you like the small test. we'll have more tests for sure;) please send me your opinions as things progress.

one piece of discovery, one piece of guilt

i recently found out about harvie krumpet, a sad yet interesting short by adam elliot. just wanted to share. his new feature film, mary & max will be around sometime. i'm sure the guy doesn't need my advertisement, but i always get extra excited with clay animation-so can't help myself.

makes me want to grab some clay;)

my mother asked me to design a bookmark (i'm not sure if this is the right word) for her. i had to turn her down because i was super busy at the time. now i'm sorry i did that; and i'll try to suprise her with the said bookmark as soon as possible. of course you won't be able to avoid seeing it, because i shall put it right here immediately!!!

i didn't forget about the origami dog, the biomimicry and the animated short stuff, but everything one step at a time, right? keep checking, please.

oh, and this 'guess where?' thing with photos seems quite fun. hehe.

flower goggles:)

today i was going to talk about some exciting news, but i decided this would be inappropriate at the moment. soooo, this is something i want to animate-maybe to add some sound this time... it is inspired by a kaleidoscope research i just made-its story coming tomorrow- i hope to figure out a way to achieve the effect i want without getting drowned in details. the sketch doesn't tell much but i'm adding anyway... around here a kaleidoscope is alterantively named a 'flower binocular'; but i would like to call it 'flower goggles'. doesn't that sound funnier?;) is every culture actually calling it flower binoculars? i need to google that...
i also learned how to further customize the blog's appearance. will try to design some nice header!
i wonder what the other design bloggers are doing?
see you guys around!

more bunny in action:)

i guess it would be nice if i introduced myself a little further... but sometimes i feel that is only possible through my work. hm, depending on my mood, i think i may add some information about the work i have posted and about myself. i would also like to personalize the look of my blog; only i am not quite sure how it's done... i will learn one step at a time i guess...ok, here it goes again. the plop! bunny in more action:

i think i will be using this guy quite often. i like him quite a lot. not in my next post, though:) bunnies always seem funny to me. i like their weird paranoid uneasiness (can there be such an expression?) and rapid movements. at least that is my image of them. anyway, yay to all the bunnies!

i wonder what will happen?

hi!
i wanted to have a kitchen full of industrial design, animation and illustration. i wanted to share some work, without the pressure of deadlines and financial worries. hmm. let's see, i hope i can manage cooking and posting things regularly and don't get lazy as i usually do. so, shall i try my first one?

this is my plop! bunny. i really enjoy creating characters and doing flash animations.
