today i sent my mom's cover design to the publisher. my fingers are crossed. i feel it, this time they won't be able to screw things.
i am hopefully going to my hometown in a couple of days, if the train ticket gods have left me a seat. i think i haven't gone there for ages. hihi that city (ankara, to be exact) is like kind of a temple for me. i need to revolve around the places i spent my childhood and early adulthood, looking for a trace of past. i need to see that it still remains the same, no matter how far i go and how stupid things i do. yeah, of course it doesn't.
my god! how i missed working in 3d... virtual space, wait for me!

displaced
a student of mine asked about displacement maps, and i was really glad he did. doing them is really easy, and i had a blast exploring the possibilities. yeah, i know, a little too technical stuff. but i really loved the effect! you can get rid of a lot of modelling by the use of maps. you can also create pretty random-looking terrains. love solving cg puzzles!

let's visit an old pal
remember way back, when i mentioned this 'really nice plugin for modelling 3d plants'? well, it is now officially safe for me to say that i didn't use it. i didn't like the outcome, so i made my olive tree grow by hand. one keyframe after another. you bet it was tiring. but not as tiring as trying to fix the awkward forms the plugin has provided me. maybe i was a lousy user; maybe you can do fantastic things with it. but i wasn't patient enough to make it work. (xfrog, please don't sue me)...
here is my 'xfrog' olive tree...
and here is my version. what do you think?

this is more like it
i think i like this presentation better. this is my first day of working like an illustration, so there will be some refinements. sometimes simplifying things seems better. what do you think? i'm not sure about many things-the fonts, the name, the background color, even the effect behind the main figures. i might use a non-3d approach here. at least it is more fun in this project!my attempt to watermark my images is still a work in progress. this time i'm trying this overlay effect. i think something like a logo might be neater. and that means more work for me. naah, maybe just a better typeface will do. let's see about that.

rebel against technology
ok. i'm not modelling the bag in 3d. doing so seemed kind ofpointless. maybe i am fed up with the 'whatever you do, make it 3d' attitude. it's not going to be cnc'ed anyway (cnc on wikipedia for the non-designer folks). there are millions of ways to present an idea, aren't there? i'll try and explore them a little. or i can die of boredom. seriously, sometimes i get fed up with 3d so badly, i can procrastinate up to infinity...
nowadays i get this identity crisis. am i the person i resolved to be ten years ago? twenty years ago? i feel i owe that person.
that child. i don't want to betray her. but i feel i am... i don't want to keep the paths that i don't feel i belong to. are you the person you resolved to be ten years ago?

vegetables are good for you
i found this really nice plant plugin for 3d, it's called xfrog. great for growing trees, plants, flowers, trees in wind, forests etc. offers great solutions! hope it comes handy when someday you need it...
i tried to install the trial version, but somehow i couldn't manage to make it work. does anybody know how to do it? no matter how hard i try, i can't set it right. if i can, i will post some 'results' here.
do you need doing plants in your 3d work too?

enough
i'm really fed up with all the 2d stuff i've been doing! i want to do 3d stuff. like real models, objects, revolving in the 3d space. don't get me wrong, i love doing 2d drawings. the last job i did for a website was really a blast (i promise to give links when it's out). but i miss modelling, texturing, rendering and for the most important part, designing things that will be real objects.
do you get fed up with whatever you are doing sometimes? do you feel like 'oh but i should be doing this (whatever you like most) instead!' am i the only one? am i?
hehe this is the stuff that has been keeping me busy lately. i feel the same with the girl.
